Did You Know? Bruce Price Bands Protect Customers

To protect customers, Bruce Markets uses the combination of a Reference Price and Price Bands.

  • The Reference Price: This is the baseline price for a given stock. For each overnight session, we set a reference price that is equal to the last print prior to 7:30pm ET or the official closing price if there is no activity after the regular session.
  • Price Bands: We then calculate static limits that are 20% above and below the Reference Price. For the entire overnight session, a stock can only trade between the lower and upper price band.

Example: If the Reference Price for a stock is $100, the 20% price bands will be $80 and $120. Buy orders will be accepted with prices less than the upper limit. Sell orders will be accepted with prices above the lower limit. This mechanism protects your customers from “fat finger” errors and extreme volatility, ensuring that all trades occur within a reasonable range relative to the market close.
