The Bruce Overnight Edge: 4,680 Symbols and Counting

As we head into the holiday weekend in the U.S., we are keeping this week’s BOE short but sweet.

4,680 symbols have traded on Bruce ATS in the 16 overnight sessions so far in May. We analyzed the execution data for these symbols and found a robust market catering to both the core symbols that trade every session and one-off symbols that might only trade when there is a catalyst event like an earnings announcement.

The average session on Bruce ATS in May:

• 8,679 symbols ordered
• 1,968 symbols traded
• 733 (37.2%) symbols that traded in all 16 sessions
• 68 (3.4%) symbols that traded in only 1 session

The data reveals a consistent and vibrant market for the overnight participant. We have markets in the everyday popular symbols (INTC, TSLA, MU, BMNU, etc.) as well as less known symbols (HAO, EZGO, WOK, MEHA, etc.) that experience sporadic increases in trading volume.

And, while we are on the topic of symbols, overnight market participants should remember that there are 39 symbols currently halted on our competitor Blue Ocean ATS for SEC Fair Access reasons. They are all available and trade regularly on Bruce ATS. We discussed this in BOE-16: The Name of the Game is Resilience, and it remains true.
